WINGS - An Immersive Multidisciplinary Experience
From May 8th to 10th, 2025, the WINGS Fashion Festival will debut as the city’s first-ever independent runway event, offering a radical alternative to the traditional fashion calendar. WINGS aims to democratise fashion, providing a platform for emerging designers to showcase their creativity without the constraints of conventional industry norms. The festival will feature collections from the designers Amiss, Catholic Guilt, Joteo, Jody Just and Speed, alongside music, performance art, and film. Inspired by the rebellious spirit of London’s Blitz Club, WINGS challenges the exclusivity and high costs of Australian Fashion Week, creating an inclusive, forward-thinking fashion experience.
Meet the Designers
Amiss – Created by Vanessa Gray in collaboration with her brother Joshua Gray (a computer scientist), Amiss merges artistic vision with technology. Built over three years, Amiss redefines couture by amplifying the natural world’s voice through innovative design and digital synergy.
Catholic Guilt – Led by Melbourne-based designer Ella Jackson, Catholic Guilt is known for its intricate chainmail pieces that have gained cult-like global recognition. Their handmade chainmail gown for Julia Fox at the NGV Gala turned heads, combining lace-like weaves and semi-precious stones to create modern-day holy relics.
Joteo – Founded by Singapore-born designer Joash Teo, Joteo blends Eastern and Western influences to create couture pieces inspired by history and art. His work, worn by figures like Abbie Chatfield and Dami Im, has gained international recognition, appearing in Vogue Portugal and on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. Teo’s silhouettes explore the line between the familiar and the otherworldly, creating garments that are protective yet elegant.
Jody Just – Roman Jody launched Jody Just in 2016 in New York City, later relocating to Sydney in 2019. Inspired by personal identity and subculture, his designs blend rugged Western influences with modern streetwear. Jody Just has gained a cult following, with pieces featured in GQ, Esquire, and Fashion Journal. High-profile artists like Post Malone and The Kid Laroi have worn his signature designs, including custom cowboy hats. Roman’s ability to merge Americana with contemporary fashion has made Jody Just a standout in the global fashion scene.
Speed – Founded by Sydney-based designer Alvi Chung, Speed stands for sustainable and contemporary luxury tailoring. Chung held her Australian Fashion Week 2024 presentation at the Sydney SEALIFE Aquarium, making a history first for showing a collection at the shark tunnel. Speed’s designs have been worn by celebrities including The Kid Laroi, Brent Faiyaz, Jillian Nguyen, and Zindzi Okenyo. The brand has been stocked at Harrolds, Australia’s premier luxury department store. Chung has collaborated with Nike and Toblerone x Vogue Australia.
